October 14-16, 2014
Reading - We will continue our second unit, Weather or Not, by reading nonfiction texts to learn more about hurricanes and tsunamis. We will practice the skills of main idea, first/second hand account, and text structures.
Writing - We will follow the Being a Writer program which begins with building a community of writers. We will read many stories, analyze the author's writing, and create our own stories. Grammar and conventions of writing will be taught using these books as well as by using student writing samples. For the next few weeks, we will focus on Personal Narratives.
Math - We will continue to learn several strategies for multiplying 2 digit x 2 digit problems. We will have a quiz but no major tests. Our fluency tests will resume next week with 50 problems in five minutes.
Homework will be written in your child's agenda each night. Please check the agenda each night and initial it.
Study multiplication and division facts each night. Those students who are fluent in facts are having an easy time in Math!
